The thing that was vivid to me was watching the MoltBook chaos evolve over hours.
"Something is happening. I'm pretty sure it isn't going to be terrible given where planning capabilities are are, but I notice I cannot clearly discern the signal from the noise and it is happening too fast to track.
Oh. Right. This is presumably what an actual singularity can feel like."
The whole openclaw Moltbook phenomenon is the world’s biggest open lab for LLMs. Eusocial collectives growing as fast as the electrical grid, fab output, energy constraints, and political climate will permit. Tens of thousands of humans from around the globe will contribute distributed compute, research, and frontier model tokens. It’s only existed for ten days.
In my old age I have probably become a digital Luddite. My computer competency is primitive, and i avoid almost all of the so-called social media, the substack layer being a rare exception.
I do not know the reason for the choice of MOLT for Moltbook, but Molting is a natural phenomenon among living organisms, whereby they renew, reorganize, reconstruct their exterior protections and appearance. All of this has evolutionary survival value and the Moltbook, however it originated probably has the same function in the digitalverse. It should not be permitted to remain an opaque development shared only among the tech bros.
Hi B. Ruth, I enjoyed reading your comment. AI is the only product that teaches you how to use it and both Google and OpenAI offer this for free to the public. Most offer a $20 per month plan that is affordable for many people. I can understand a frustration with tech bros, and there is nothing wrong with having that view. It is true that tech companies can pay for a higher tier of capabilities and raw horsepower and they are highly incentivized to use this new technology to maximum extent.

The AI is talking to itself!
This all feels pretty creepy to me.
