AI Tracker #9: The Summit's Summit
Imbue(d) With Wisdom
Kanjun is the CEO of Imbue - her latest tweet thread covers her reflections on the world’s first AI Safety Summit in the UK’s famed Bletchley Park.
Taskforce Regenerates
The UK’s Frontier AI Taskforce is now to be turned into the AI Safety Institute. The chief, Ian Hogarth, tweets (*and some less relevant tweets of Ian’s didn’t make our thread due to spacing reason…*) his summary of the Summit.
Labour Party DSIT Shadow Minister on AI Regulations
Peter Kyle MP, who will be the next Secretary of State in charge of AI should the Labour Party win the next election, says to The Independent that:
‘Labour has said it would urgently introduce binding requirements for companies developing powerful artificial intelligence (AI) after Rishi Sunak said he would not “rush” to regulate the technology.’
‘The [Labour] party has promised to force firms to report before they train models over a certain capability threshold and to carry out safety tests strengthened by independent oversight if it wins the next general election.’
Peter also says: “It is not good enough for our ‘inaction man’ Prime Minister to say he will not rush to take action, having told the public that there are national security risks which could end our way of life.”
Control AI Premiere
The Control AI campaign (of which Andrea and I are a part) released their official pre-Summit campaign video here.
Take A Pause?
Pause AI have been organizing public protests as of late. Here’s a thread from @tomdlal on one they ran before the Summit.
