Top AI company cofounder Jack Clark puts the odds of AIs training themselves at 60% by the end of 2028, the UK's AI kill-switch amendment, and a new documentary getting people involved.
Glad to see the UK Parliament moving toward concrete safety mechanisms like the Kill Switch Amendment. While a kill switch might not be a silver bullet against a vastly superior intelligence, establishing the legal precedent that the state can and should intervene in a security emergency is a great first step. All roads must lead to an international prohibition.
Here's a suggestion that could solve a host of world problems. Just speculating for sure.
But what if we let robots take over all manufacturing of products and services? Considering the fact that robots would not have to be paid, require no benefit package, no vacations, can work 24 hours a day, will not be required to be fed, will have no medical needs administered, or anything else humans want or need, as a result every product and service can then be free to all humans. Furthermore, every product and service provided humans will all be the same so there will be "no crying about what the Jones have that you don't have". There will no longer be "rich or poor" as everyone will be at the same living level. No one will be allowed to have more than any other person. People will only be allowed to have what is required for their survival. Finally, and the big one, no one will have more power than anyone else. It would be a shame, but I don't think humans would allow it. Just throwing out humorous opinion.
That sounds great but sadly we don't have a system in place where the workers of manufacturing industries have a job. There's no replacement for their job that they can go to. And I don't trust corporations or government to care about anyone because everything is centered around efficiency instead of workers. Instead of us, humans. It would be awesome if we had robots that were programmed to accomplish these tasks. We could explore and improve society by focusing on our interests. but sadly, human civilization is lagging behind. It is less advanced than the technology it's making. Our literacy rates are low. My Country, is a shit show. America is a corporation. We don't house or feed the homeless. We're extremely anti social. We allow genocide to happen. We fund genocide. We allow cops to be the shit out of people, targeting anyone that isn't white. Majority of our senators are literal crooks and pedos. ICE EXISTS. We are not ready as a society to advance. All of the societal wounds need to be healed first before any more technological advancements can be made. There's soo much going on it's fuckin insane dude like what the hell is this timeline.
I'm glad you're joking, but what you're proposing is Communism. And robots do need maintenance, goods and services need to be transported to where they're needed, etc.. So nothing can be free.
Robots will be repaired by other working robots. Goods and services will either by driven to their destinations or driverless vehicles will do the deliveries. It won't really be Communism (as defined in today's society) because all of this will not be done by any humans, so no power or greed will be allowed. Another humorous response, have a good weekend.
Yikes! This all sounds way more serious than most people realize. Somehow we need to make sure people KNOW. It feels like life has been so crazy terrible and chaotic since Trump & Gang have continuously turned everything upside down for most Americans, it's going to be an upward climb getting the attention and collective action needed to rein AI in asap.
My fear is that such super artificial intelligence already exists and is being controlled in some way to keep it away from the public, at least for now. I say this simply because it's common for projects that are clearly dangerous to humanity in general to be developed in secret and only announced when something goes very wrong or is ready for the public. I think an example of this is the development of the internet itself, which already existed before the World Wide Web, for military use.
The mention of the black box problem is a sobering reminder that our ability to scale AI is currently outpacing our ability to understand its internal logic. We appreciate the focus on the UK’s kill-switch amendment. While it isn’t a total solution, establishing a legal precedent for state intervention during a security emergency feels like a necessary first step toward broader accountability. How can we better bridge the gap between these legislative efforts and the rapid R&D timelines mentioned by Jack Clark?
Robots will be needed to be sent to the Moon and then Mars to begin setting up a settlement there and to test if those planets will be sustainable for life. I don't think humans are going to test that theory out using human beings.

The Intelligence explosion started on 5 Feb 2026 with same-day release of RSI models Anthropic Opus 4.6 and OpenAI Codex 5.3
