What is the DIP?
The DIP has two straightforward steps:
Design policies that target the development of superintelligence and precursor technologies.
Inform every relevant person in the democratic process and convince them to take a stance on this issue.
This plan is the most direct way to tackle the problem, going through the institutions that power our societies. It engages not only lawmakers, but also governments, media, and civil society.
No one has even tried this – a massive failure of civic engagement that should be rectified as soon as possible.
How can you take action?
We’ve laid the groundwork for anyone to participate in the DIP.
With A Narrow Path, we’ve already designed policies to prevent the development of superintelligence.
Today, we’re releasing a blueprint for anyone to replicate our civic engagement.
With our UK campaign, we’ve shown that direct engagement can lead to meaningful change.
More than one in three lawmakers we meet become public supporters after hearing our briefings. As of now, we’ve built a cross-party coalition of over 25 UK politicians, who recognize the extinction threat of AI and support binding regulation on the most powerful AI systems.
We need to massively scale up to meet this threat, but we can’t do this alone.
That’s why the DIP is designed as a collaborative plan, enabling organizations and citizens to participate independently.
We’re releasing concrete policy briefings, presenting these measures, that anyone can use.
We have tools so every citizen can quickly contact their representatives about AI risk and ask them to act.
You can help effect real change, no matter where or who you are — you can just do things.
Every time someone is informed about the risks, every time a country implements concrete policies to address them, we get closer to an international ban on superintelligence.
We can take back control of our future, and this is the first step.
